Our Mission

cropped-masthead_red.jpgThe Public Interest Law Foundation (PILF) at Rutgers University School of Law in Newark is a unique student-run non-profit organization charged with the primary task of raising funds, which are provided to students with summer positions in the public interest field. Our main fundraising activity is our Annual PILF Auction.

Since its founding, PILF has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to support the important community-based work of our peers. Over the past several years, PILF has raised over $150,000 to support 40 students with grants of up to $4000. Students have worked at a variety of organizations across the country, including the White House Counsel on Environmental Quality, the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, LAMBDA Legal, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Environmental Protection Agency, the National Partnership for Women & Families, and the Fair Share Housing Center. With your help, we hope to continue raising the bar so that students interested in public service, or working with organizations helping the under-served, can do so and be financially supported during the coming summer.

In addition to raising money, PILF volunteers and grant recipients have one thing in common: all aspire to work or help people work in public interest positions. PILF initiatives help young legal students become more aware of ongoing public interest programs and provide opportunities to network with individuals serving in public interest fields. Join our efforts by donating to our cause.
